Manufacturing Engineer
Position Description
The Manufacturing Engineer develops and implements hardware, software, and instrumentation for testing and manufacturing of medical devices, in addition to performing electrical testing and characterization of the medical devices. The position includes performing automation and system integration of manufacturing processes for new or revised products. The Manufacturing Engineer also develops and implements manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards, as well as, conduct validations, testing, and root cause analysis to support various production and quality system processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform research, design, and development of electronic systems including hardware and software for manufacturing processes including production flow and assembly methods.
- Support existing manufacturing processes as well as develop innovative manufacturing processes for new medical devices and instruments.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation like operational, testing, and maintenance procedures as required by quality standards.
- Plan and organize projects for development or modification of electronic equipments, instruments etc.
- Automate manual testing and manufacturing processes and provide technical support.
- Write specifications for and validate software programs for controlling equipments.
- Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
- Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
- Participate and represent Manufacturing Engineering in cross-functional teams.
- Troubleshoot production system issues, determine root cause failure, and implement corrective actions.
- Work with production operators and supervisors to ensure processes are accurate and are being followed.
- Assist R & D engineers to test devices, implement production lines, and transfer new products to the production.
- Work with fellow manufacturing engineers to support process improvements.
- Assist QA engineers in complaint investigations.
- Develop and maintain custom test fixtures and interfaces.
- Review and rewrite manufacturing procedures as needed to insure Standard Operating Procedures and training materials are consistent.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- May supervise and direct college interns and/or Manufacturing Technicians.
Qualifications
- Min. 3 years of experience as an Engineer or min. 5 years of experience as an Engineering Technician.
- Understanding of the general principles of electrical/electronics, engineering.
- Experience with troubleshooting, fixture design/validations, electrical connections, and soldering.
- Ability to develop and follow systematic troubleshooting procedures to address down tool and equipment issues.
- Experience with measurement techniques and instrumentation.
- Previous software development experience is preferred.
- Automation, Instrumentation, system Integration experience preferred.
- Be able to understand engineering drawings and principles.
- Willingness to learn and accept new responsibilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to plan/prioritize activities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Work successfully with associates and engineers in other departments and understands cross-functional relationships.
- Demonstrate exceptional process knowledge, and be able to interpret technical data, operating and maintenance instructions, and company specifications.
- Associate or Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering.
